OBITUARY
The death of Mr Duncan Campbell at the age of CO years removes from the list one of Southland’s very old identities. Ho was born in the parish of Farr, SutherInndshire, Scotland. The- ship Gala landed Mr Campbell in Pert Chalmers in 1855. Previous to his coming to New Zealand deceased had been in the Scotland Constabulary, and he donned the navy blue when he came to the land of his adoption. In about three years he left the service and took employment in a local store. Following on this ho became driver of Cobb mvl Co.'s coach between Bluff and Riverton. Afterwards Air Campbell commenced business on his own account, and his ro**ches rnn between Riverton and Clinton for about 14 vear;?. In 1877 he became Crown Lands ranger and Inspector of Forests for the FmUiiLand district, which position ha held, off and on until his retirement, on superannuation in 1908. AH' Campbell joined the Shamrock, Rose, and Thistle Lodge of Oddfellows in the seventies, and had paused through all the chairs.—* Southland Times.’
