OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD
The quarterly attendance returns for tlio period ended December 31, 1917, compiled by the Otago Education Board, show that thero were 260 schools in operation in the district. Tho average weekly number of pupils on the rolls d.aring the quarter was 22,528, comprising 11.677 boys and 10,851 girls. The average attendance was 10,797 boys and 9,974 girls, making a total of 20,771, or 595 more than for the previous quarter, and 86 more than for the December quarter, 1916. The averages for the city and suburban schools were:—Forbury, 685; North-east Valley, 650; Caversham, 637; Albany street, 631; George ftreefc, 652; Macandrew road, 629 ; Musselburgh, 614 ; Kaikorai, 594; Normal, 570; Mbrnintrton, 551; High street, 548; Arthur street, 517; Kensington, 595; Maori Hill, 370; Moray place, 336; Green Island, 314; £t. Clair, 310 : Anderson's Bay, 283; Ravens-bou-ne. 192; Wakari, 163; Concord 129Leith Valley, 63. The averages for the Oamarn schools were:—North school, 491; .South school, 385; Middle school, 171. The averages for the District High Schools were:—Port Chalmers, 467: Balclutha, 401; Mosgiel, 365; Palmerftoit 246 ; Tokomairiro, 239; Lav-rence, 181 ; Tapanui, 173; Alexandra, 172. During the quarter now schools wero opened at Dalracknev and Saooiiis Creek.
