BURIAL OF MR PARATA

_ The funeral of Mr C. E>. Parata, M.P. Southern Maori district, whose body was brought down-from Wellington yesterday, by relatives, took place at Pnkctcraki this afternoon. Many representative men attended, including the Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, Minister of Finance and joint head of the National Government, the four local members of Parliament — Messrs T. K. Side}', G. E. Statliam, A. Walker, and J. M. Dickson—Mr G. Witty, M.P. for Riccarton, Mr Asher (representing the Wairarapa tribe), Mr Wi Nera (Manawatu tribe), Mr 0. Balk i representing the Bowling Association), Jr H. Y. Wdddowson, S.M., Mr J. Mill (Port Chalmers), and representatives of the various Native tribes throughout the Dominion. The sdrvico was conducted partly at the Huirapa Hall and at the graveside, the Rev. E. J. Neale, vicar of Waikouaiti, officiating. The deceased was interred in family ground, and the pallbearers were Sir Joseph Ward, Messrs G. Witty, C. B. Statham, H. Karetai, Wi Nera. H. Rupene, O. Balk, H. Kemaru, T. Hipi, H. Tipa, P. Porepe, J. Heaph, and T. Tipene. Many floral tributes were forwarded by relatives and friends of the deceased, including wreaths from the family, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, Hon. W. H. Henries (Minister of Native Affairs), Hon. T. Ngata, M.P. (Eastern Maori),*'and Mrs Ngata, Mr Tan Henare, M.P. (Northern Maori), and Mrs Henare, the Dunedin members of Parliament, Mr Ashor and family (Tanranga), Mr and Mrs G. Witty, Mr and Mrs Overton (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs J. R. Raw (Auckland), the Tonmka Natives, and the members of the Liberal party. A number of Maori mats were received from several of the Nojrth Island tribes, and telegrams were ser>t by representative pakehas and Natives'throughout the Dominion.

The arrangements for the reception of visitors were attended, to by Mr Henry Parata.
