BRIGHTON NOTES

Brighton, which has become a very popular seaside resort, was very full of visitors during the holidays. On Now Year’s Day 'a sports meeting was successfully held” amongst the visitors, and tho Brighton Brass Band, under tho oonductorship of Mr F. Tanner, played several items during the afternoon. Boys’ race (under 21 years), G. Crimp 1, C. Wishart 2. Girls’ race (under 21 years), E. Romison 1, H. Fisher 2. Men’s race, F. A. Crimp 1, C Dceth 2. Single ladies’ race,. Miss Allen 1, Miss Plunkett 2. Married ladies’ race, Mrs J. Thorn I,’ Mrs E. L. Macassoy 2. Sack race (girls), Myra Brown 1, V. Swann 2. 'Sack race (boys), J. Brown 1, J. Butcher 2. Potato race, Misses Dawson, Owens, and Aslin (equal). Officials’ race, E. L. Macassey 1, H. I. Ross 2. On New Near’s night a very successful concert was held in the Hislop Hall, in aid of the school prize fund. Mr E. L. Macassey was chairman, and a capital programme was provided by the Brighten Orchestra, and songs were given by Misses Mavall, Whitson, C. Aslin, W. Allen, Miller, Lungley, West, Messrs Stanley Hall, N. French, and G. Sutherland; recitations by Misses M.' Thurston, M‘Kay, J. Aslin, Chambers, and Le Brun; violin solo by Master Levi, and ‘ Cheer Oh ’ chorus by the Brighton House boys. A committee of six men has been appointed to raise money for the building of bathing sheds on the beach and control them.
