COMMONWEALTH CRISIS
STATE OF FLUX. NO .UEGiSION YET. Press Association—Bv Telegraph—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. . MELBOURNE, January 4. Tho political i situation has materially changed. A large* section of tho Caucus stronglypressed Mr Hughes tp .resign and let another Ministry be'formed from the National party, or, alternatively, to have Mr Tudor (Labor Opposition Leader) sent for. The Caucus refused to authorise the Government to resign. This throws on the Cabinet the full responsibrlitv for honoring Mr Hughes's Bendigo pledge that Australian leiuforoeni'ents would be forthcoming. January 5. (Received January 5, at 9.35 a.m.) • A meeting of the National party decided not to support any action that would hand ever tho reins of government to the Labor party. A motion that Mr Austin Chapman (New South Waks) be entrusted with the formation of a Cabinet waa overwhelmingly defeated. Cabinet meets again, to-day, but it is doubtful whether any action will be taken until next week.
