Fearless and brave almostlo a fault, he died with his face to the foe in the van of the attack. He made three attempts to get away before he was finally accepted for active service. He could have only been in the trenches a few weeks. He was the eldest son of Mrs falconer, who has for many years resided in various centres in the Goldfields. Jim received the major part of his education at the Bald Hill Plat School. He joined the Stores Department of the New Zealand Railways, but bad health caused him to tender his resignation, and at the time of his enlistment he was engaged in the fruit industry at Coal Creek Plat He was of a most genial disposition, and universaUy liked by all whom he came in conI tact with. As a sprinter ho competed successfully with some of the best of the j cracks, but, winning or losing, he was always one of the best of sports.
