ST. KILDA COUNCIL

The ..ordinary meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr C. N. Scurr), Ors A. Campbell, 0. Denscm, J. Ritchie, A. Kilpatrick, R. Hall, H. Smeaton, A. Edgar, and R. Telfer. A letter was received from Mr A. Harris thanking the council on behalf of the residents of Tolbooth street for the assistance given in providing electric, lighting in the street named.—Letter received. Mr A. Palmer-wrote stating that, in compliance -with the Council's request, •he made j formal application to inspect the borough's '■ rate books for the purpose of ascertaining the difference paid by certain ratepayers, and between the rates paid by them during the last year of the capital valuation and the present .year of Ihe unimproved valuation.—Cr Edgar moved that tha letter be received, and that the writtr be informed that he can'inspect the rate books only during -those periods when they are advertised for inspection.—The motion was seconded by Cr Densem, and parried. Mr J. W. Judd wrote drawing the council's attention to the existing nuisance of an elderberry hedge between his property and that of a resident in Young street. ' The writer pointed out-that it was some six months since he sent in a second complaint regarding this nuisance, and although ho had seen the inspector about the matter, nothing had yet been done to remove the hedge. He asked the council to take'steps to have the hedge. rooted out, as it is exhausting a large strip of the section.— After some discussion, the matter was referred to the General Committee to inquire into and report to the council. The Secretary of the Otago Agricultural and PastOTal v Society wrote stating that by direction of the committee of" that body he asked the council to effect some repairs to the road adjacent to Tahuna Park between the caretaker's house and the gate next to the secretary's office. He pointed out that this portion of tne road had not been repaired for some considerable time, and as military camps were being continually h»ld in the park, a good deal of traffic passed over the road.—lt was resolved that the necessary repairs be carried out. Tho Engineer (Mr B. B. The Reserves, Band, and Fire Brigade Umimittee recommended that a fireplu"- be put in Ings avenue, and that the firephioin the plantation in Alexandra Park be moved out to the street.
