FAILED TO PARADE

NOT A PASSIVE RESISTER. [Per United Press Association-.;; . HAMILTON, October 9. A young, single man, Gilbert Walker, wno was drawn in the ballot, failed to parade. He lived at Korakonui, a lonelyspot m the bush. A party of police were despatched from Hamilton. Thev surrounded the house. Walker appeared, but, seeing the police, rushed back, saying :' " Keep off, or I'll shoot vou." The police rushed the house, and Walker again threatened to shoot. After a desperate struggle the man was arrested and his rifle secured. In the struggle Walker's clothing was almost torn off. He was brought to Hamilton. His house was searched, and the police found arms and ammunition. Walker said he had been sleeping in the bush for weeks. He will be court martialled at Auckland to-night.
