Y.M.C.A. GIFT SOCIAL. The Young Ladies' Committee of the Otago Soldiers' Club last evening held a gift social in connection with a bazaar to be held early in November in aid of the Soldiers' Hostel fund. The proceedings opened with a piano solo by Miss D. Bagley, who also accompanied all the songs, the soloists being Misses Verona Campbell, Ackroyd, and Madge Emery (who was encored). Miss D. Shaw contributed a violin accompanied by Miss I. White ; Miss Alice Austin a musical monologue; and Miss Winnie James a recitation. During the evening a competition which had been arranged by Miss Alice Andrew took place. The decoration of the room was in the hands of Miss Zeila Ross. About ICO people were present at the evening, and a very choice collection of presents was the result. Mrs H. K. Wilkinson, on behalf of the young ladies, heartily thanked the givers, and explained the "object of the proposed sale of work.
