(Received October 5, at 11.15 a.m.) The Press Bureau states; The Shipping Controller has established a conciliation committee, at whose invitation representatives of shipowners and seamen have been discussing the possibility of standard national rates of wages anil the setting up of machinery to regulate the supply and conditions of employment. The Ministry are satisfied regarding the expediency of national rates, and are" prepared to create the necessary machinery, and confidently hope that an agreement between all parties will bo reached, together with the fullest co-operation in all matters.
