GIRLS’ EMPIRE CLUB
. On Wednesday evening, at Miss Mendelsohn’s tea -rooms, the Girls’ Empire Club entertained the personnel of the hospital ship at present at' Port Chalmers to a card and musical evening. The entertainment was most successful, and thoroughly appreciated by the members of-the medical corps. The guests were received by Mesdames Sutherland, Holmes, and Stevenson. Prizes for a progressive euchre tourney wore won by Miss Martin and Private WilMiss Duncan and Private Marlow receiving the. “booby” prizes respectively. The prizes were presented by the Mayor, who welcomed the hoys, and stated that it was the intention of the Girls’ Club to also entertain them at a dance if arrangements could be made. Musical • items were given by Misses Hayward, Dowden, Dillon, Marshall. Brennan, .and Bell, and recitations by Misses Todd and Le Brun. Miss Margaret Gawn played the accompaniments. Privates Williams and M‘Lennan, of the ship’s staff, also contributed to the programme.
