SAlLED.—September 14. Monowai, s.s. (3.15 p.m.), 3,433 tons, Drewette, for Auckland via East Coast ports. Passengers : For Lyttelton—Mrs Johnstone and child, Messrs Bass, Mawson, Jacks. For Wellington—Misses Kelly, Watson, M'Kenzie, Findlay, Greenslado, Coleman, O'Connor, Patterson, Bremner, Mesdames Montague, Tubman, Heroley, Field, Watson, Messrs Spence, Webb. For Napier—Miss Stout. For Gisborne—Misses Reid, Hay.. Mrs Hay. For Auckland—Misses Johnson, Kilgour, Thompson, Mrs Clare and child, Mr Clare; and nine steerage for all ports.

The Kowhai is expected to leave Kaipara to-day for Wellington to bunker. She will afterwards go to Picton to load chaff for Onehunga. After discharge at the Manukau port the Kowhai will proceed to Kaipara to load macliinery and other cargo tor Greymouth. The Kakapo is expected to leave Greymouth to-night for Westport to complete loading coal for Lyttelton. Captain J. Rankine, of the Rosamond, left the vessel at Dunedin to-day, and is proceeding to Wellington by the Monowai on holiday leave. Captain F. Edgo, late of the Kara, has taken command of the Rosamond.

THE SCHOONER HOUTO. The auxiliary schooner Houto is now loading a fiUl shipment of general cargo at the Kitchener street wharf for Lyttelton. She is expected' to complete her loading in time to sail to-morrow. After discharge at Lyttelton the Houto will load a full cargo of produce at that port for Auckland. THE MONOWAI'S FAST PASSAGE. It was reported in these columns on Tuesday last that the Union Company's steamer Monowai had made a remarkamv fast passage from Auckland to Wellington direct. On tho vessel's arrival at Dunedin on Thursday morning it was ascertained that the actual steaming time of the favorite old ship between the two ports even faster than was at first reported. The Monowai cleared the King's wharf at Auckland a few minutes after 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, the engine-room staff Receiving the order "Full speed" at 7.52 p.m. She was favored with fine weather all the way, and steamed along in fine style, arriving in Wellington at noon on the Monday, and making fast at Hie Queen's wharf at exactly 12.15 p.m. The actual steaming time was therefore 40f hours for a distance of 564 "miles, thus averaging a speed of close on 14 knots.
