HOTEL HOURS
ALLIANCE DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED. The executive of the Now Zealand Alliance passed a resolution at Wellington last evening expressing their indignation and. deep disappointment that th 6 Bill introduced by the Government comes so far short of what had been asked for by petitions from 177,000 electors of the Dominion, by resolutions from the repiesentatives of nearly every class in the community, and supported by the deliberate judgment of the National Efficiency Board. The executive affirmed the demand for 6 p.m. as the very latest hour for the closing of liquor bars, and decided to call upon all worthy citizens to express their dissatisfaction" and use every legitimate means to induce tneir representatives in Parliament to amend tho Bill in harmony with public opinion and with the needs of tho present grave national crisis.
A meeting of Dunedin businass men was held recently to consider the question of the hours for the sale of liquor, the outcome being the appointment of a committee to watch the proposals for legislation, and to take action if necessary. Another meeting of business -men was held lato this afternoon to decide what action should be taken by way oE protest against the provision in the "Sale of Liquor Restriction Bill relating to the hour of closing hotels. Similar action is being taken at Auckland, Wellington, and other centres.
The Farmers' Union Executive at Auckland carriod a resolution that the proposals of the Government regarding hotel hours are a reasonable compromise.
