T.R.. IN THE MIDDLE WEST. Colonel Roosevelt had a tremendous ovation at Chicago on April 27, when ho addressed two splendid meetings and gave some straight talk to the afarming community to avoid exploiting the people at a time of national crisis. " Farm and arm" was his slogan when speaking before the National Security League. He demanded that every ounce of energy should bo put into the tillage of the soil, and ■went on to say: The world is now facing a shortage of food. Soon we in this country shall face a shortage of food also. TherefoTo, let us use all the grain we have for food, and not for tho manufacture of intoxicants. Now that the war is on, let us forbid any corn or grain being used in tho manufacture of intoxicating liquors. Let the Government help our farmers by mobilising labor, if necessary, and let them tell our young men that it is a case of farm and arm.
