RAILWAY MANAGEMENT.

TO TEIE EDITOR. Sir, —The absurdity to which railway management is pushed was exemplified very fully tins morning. At 7.45 four to five men were octnilcd off to see no one got on to the station to sea friends away by the express unless they had tickets. Only some 40 people at the utmost were blocked. The oepartmont, to top the absurdity, refused to sell any tickets for, say, Pelichot Bay, until after 8 o’clock, and thus enable people to get on to tho station and see their friends ; lwv -y- It is time railway officials remembered that tho railways aro made for tho people, and not the people for the railways. I arn, etc., Red Tape. [The position is that the express trains are only made up to the capacity of one engine, and to ensure that only train passengers occupy seats it is necessary to allow only those holding rail tickets for the express trains on to the platform. Passengers who have reserved seats for journeys over 100 miles require to be seated 15 minutes before the time of departure, after which those who have' not reserved seats are permitted to occupy the remaining seats. To enable these arrangements. which are in the interests of the travelling public, to be carried out, it is essential that only actual passengers be allowed access to the station platform. Experience has shown that non-passengers have a tendency to occupy seats in the train with their friends until starting time.—Ed. E.S.]
