TOWN PLANNING
A meeting of the Town Planning branch of the Dunedin 'Amenities Society was attended by Mr J. L. Salmond (in the chair), Mrs Woodhouse, Dr R. G. Macdonald, Messrs G. M. Thomson, J. Wilson, W. S. Wilson, W. D. R. - M'Curdie, and Mandeno and Hooper, hon. secretaries. Mr J. Wilson spoke re workmen’s dwellings. He said he had plans prepared, and would present these at the next meeting. _ The diairman spoke about the presentation of cups recently won. He was of opinion that tho cups should be presented at an evening meeting, and (hat all competitors be asked to attend.—Mr Thomson proposed, and it was carried, that next meeting be _at 7.30 p.m. and then at 8 o'clock the prizes be presented and the general public admitted. Mr MTCellar reported re Walker street improvement scheme, also untidy street frontages, -and the question of .sowing Claremont street, Dunottar; also keeping the Water of Leith clean of rubbish.—Mr M'Kellar moved the adoption of the report, which was carried. The Chairman referred to the untidyfrontages to sections, and suggested that the should be written to, asking them to, if possible, deal with offenders. Members were strongly of opinion that this matter should bo given full publicity, in the hope that reforms might bo made.—-Mr J. Wilson suggested that the daily papers should be asked to publish locals drawing attention to this serious neglect on the part ot the public.—This was agreed to. It was reported that Mr Tannock had the sowing and planting of Dunottar streets under consideration. Mr M'Curdie stated that tho cleaning of Water of Leith had been attended to. The plan of Forhury Corner subdivision was laid on the table, and was discussed by members in an informal manner. It was felt that the council should endeavor to secure _tlus property for the City. Mr M'Curdie said ihat the council h-wl provided a bridge by the quarry for an entrance to Ross Creek resr-yi r.— suggested that cions should he placed on the road, so as to be a guide to visitors. Mr Hcllingworth read a letter which was sem to the Horticultural Society re plan tin" ot some reserves with potatoes. Mr Hollinsworth said that the Horticultural Society jiad appointed a sub-committee to inquire into tbs scheme. The sub-committee wer° m tavor of the scheme, but would not have it confined only to potato-growing.—Mr J vViisoii saul that the Reserves Committee had power to act, and had been so instructed by the council.—Mr G. M. Thomson thought that we should support the scheme most heartily —Mr W. S. Wilson moved as subcommittee Messrs Salmond, M'Kellar G M Tlionmn, and W. S.
