CANCER DEATH-ROLL
“ For the first time the mortality from cancer lias definitely overtaken that from consumption in tills country.” This startling fact is reported by Mr Douglas Macmillan” the hon. secretary, in ins annual report of the British Society for tho Prevention and Relief of Cancer. At the present time, in England and Wales, it is stated that some 40,T00 persons die annually from the scourge. A serious warning is given in the report regarding the effects of the war, it beinostated; “It is a matter of common know” ledge that cancer very frequently develops at the site cf a former scar or wound. Whatever the underlying cause of the malady may be, the lamentable fact remains that as a result of the present unparalleled warfare, we shall have to face in the very near future a most serious increase in malignant growths in men, and especially the men who have served their country in tho field.” An appeal is made for more funds which, it is stated, ifca uxor.fttttJLv
