Dr Marshall Alacdonaffl and Dr Stuart Moore left for the North yesterday under orders from the Defence Department to proceed to Europe on active service. Mrs Macdonuld left with her husband, and will resume the nursing service in France, in which she has already boon engaged during the war. The Kev. W. T. Todd, of Rakaia, has received a call from the Lyttelton Presbyterian congregation. The King's Police Modal has been awarded to Mr John Cullen, 1.5\0., late Commissioner of Police of New Zealand. The official announcement states that Mr Cullen " passed through all ranks to his late position." Mr G. W. P.rown, of the local Telegraph Ollicc, has been appointed postmaster at Balfour. Jih Gerald Strickland, the Governor of New South Wales, made what was announced as his last public appearance prior to his departure for England at a luncheon given by the Sulphide Corporation recently at the works at Cockle Creek. It was mentioned for the first time that, after the expiration of his leave of absence, ho does not intend to return to Now South Wales, and it was also intimated that ho intends to take up farming pursuits in England. The Mayor (Mr J. J. Clark) received a sheaf of telegrams to-day from all parts of the Dominion congratulating him on Lis victory. A Sydney cable announces the death of the Hon. Henry Carey Dan gar, Af.L.C, a prominent pnstoralist and horse-breeder. The Arthur Street School Committee have appointed Air F. Palmer as janitor of the school.
