CANON LAW

EQUALITY FOR CLERGY DESIRED. [Per United Phess Association.] CIIRISTCHURCH, February 19. At a meeting of the Christehurch Ministers' Association the following motion was carried unanimously : That this association call the attention of the Government to ths necessity for preserving the absolute equality o"f the clergy of all churches in the' Dominion with regard to military service. They desire, to protest against the employment of the authority of canon law in appeals before military boards, since canon law has no authority whatever in British courts. _ They desire specially to protest against a statement by, a Roman Catholic archbishop that the* requirement of services from priests by the State would be regarded a.s religious persecution. The association respectfully submit that unless absolute equality as between the clergy of the different churches is very sternly insisted upon very grave disquiet" and disturbance will be created in the Dominion.
