WATERSIDE WORKERS
DISPUTE BEFORE CONCILIATION
COUNCIL.

The Conciliation Council are occupied with a claim filed by the shipping companies against the New Zealand Walersidevs' Union and (lie Auckland Watersiders' Union in respect- to conditions of labor on the waterfront. The employers' claini_ is practically idcutiral with' the expiring award. Claims for higher pay and safe working conditions have been made by the watevsiders. A conference was held, but the parties failed to agree. The watersiders' unions did not appoint assessors, and the Commissioner appointed representative workers in that capacity.
