MILITARY FUNERAL.

On Saturday. February 3. a. military funeral was accorded (he remains of (he late William Joseph AFUoy, who died in the Ti main Hospital of’ cprebro-spinal meningitis. The deceased enlisted at Mosgiel, anil; went, into camp with the 19th Reinforcements. He was taken ill at Tiniaru in October last, when on ids way south on final lenvo, and was in tho hospital from October 12 till the time of his death. Ho was believed to he making a good, covory. hut had. a. relapse. The 2nd (South Canterbury) Regimental Band were in attendance, with 12 members of No. '45 Company of Senior Cadote, under Sergeant Woodham and Corporal G. G. Webster, as the firing party. The parade was in charge of Lieutenant R. S. P. Hopkins, and marched to the Catholic Church’ v.-liere the pall-bearers (six returned soldiers, under Sergeant Davor) received the coffin, which was placed on" a gun-car-riage. The. firing party, with arms reversed. led the cortege to the cemetery, the baud playing the Dead March. At the- graveside the- Rev. Father Herbert read the burial service, and three volleys were fired over the grave. Biuter T'avlor. <•/ the Senior Cadets' Bugle Band, played lue t-ast Post. the deceased was die second eldest son of Mrs Margaret and the late Mr John M‘C‘oy, of North Otago, and brother of Aire P. W. Hayden, of this City, and was well known as an athlete. Ho had won. amongst other trophies, a champion modal for wrestling at the Caledonian sports at Timaru, and was respected by all who knew him.
