'J ACCUSE'

EVIDENCES OF GERMAN GUILT

Tho correspondent of the Paris journal 'L'Hnmanite' on the Swiss frontier has had itn interview with ihe German author of the book published in French and English under the title 'J'Aceusc,' dealing with tho question of the responsibility for tho present war. _ Tho German writer'mentioned that he will shortly publish a new work in two volumes on the same subject. He said he had been constantly occupied o;i tho question since the publication of 'J'Accuse,' which was written in two months (December, 1914. and January, 1915).

" Examining the documents then published, without the lea.st prejudice,"' lie remarked, ''l acquired the conviction that the so-called defensive war we-aro waging is, so far as Germany is concerned, 'nothing but an Imperialist offensive war. intentionally provolved. and with premeditation, with the complicity and assistance of our ally, Austria-Hungary. It was the indignation I felt regarding the gigantic lie which tho German people had believed, roil uni'ortunat"y still believe, that guided my pen. Since then discussions concerning responsibility have taken place between the belligerent Governments" and the newspapers of the various countries; and an important series of documents has como to light i elating to the d : stant and immediate origin of tho war. I have collected them, and shall incorporate their substance in my forthcoming book. My new work will prob-o all the proofs concerning Germany's guilt; it will refute the replies made to my first accusation; and it will, I am convinced, constitute a defirite, immovable sentence. The basis of the new book is broader and deeper than the first. The sentenoe will remain the same: Germany and Austria-Hungary are solely and exclusively guilty of Waving provoked this European war."
