MILITARY SERVICE : THE MILTON CASES.

"Our Own" wries from Milton this afternoon :—On resuming at 930 p.m. the chairman announced the board's decision in respect to tMe°ca«es"oi:' the brothers Clark and Peatlie. As regards (he appeal of the Clarksfthe board had, after mature consideration, come to the conclusion that the appeal of one brother must be dismissed. The board proposed to ask which of the brothers would elect to go to the front. 'Die elder brother said tliey had not considered the matter. The chairman said that with regard to the other brother the board concluded Unit his calling up would not be contrary to the public interest nor be a case of undile hardship. The board were willing to give that brother a, little time to arrange matters on the farm. The position, therefore, was that one brother had to go now and the other would go in a month. The younger brother elected to go first Mr Donald Reid said he would like to make an appeal. Mr Widdowsoii said the board could not discuss that question. As regards the brothers Beattie. the chairman said their appeal was 'ill a different, footing altogether. The appellants had been left with an embarrassed estate and aged mother. One elaimed absolute exemption, and the other sought exemption until next May or thereabouts. The board had looked very carefully into the matter, and did not, look unsympathetieally on the case. They thought, however. Unit it would not be "in the public interest to grant absolute exemption. They therefore proposed to adjourn the younger brother's appeal sine die, provided lie remained in his present occupation. The elder brother would be given two months to complete arrangements to enable him then to go. This closed the day's proceedings.
