:v DEATH OF DR ALEXANDER. The police received infoj'mation this afternoon that Dr Edward. Henry Alexander, formerly resident surgeon at Ashburn Hall, Waknri (private/ hospital for mental diseases), had been found dead; at his temporary residence in Jubilee street) Momington, death apparently having been caused by a gunshot wound. The deceased doctor was the son of the late Dr Alexander, who for many years, in -conjunction with Mr Hume, conducted the same hospital, then generally known as Hume's Asylum. He was educated at Christ College and at the Otago Boys’ High School. He commenced hjs medical studies at Otago, University, and then went to Edinburgh, where his career was a fairly distinguished one) After acting as demonstrator to the professor of pathology, he specialised in Edinburgh under Dr Clouston in mental diseases. Whim’Dir Alexander returned to New Zealand he took up practice us a surgeon in Blenheim, in association with Dr Cleghorn. Later his health broke down, and he came to Dunedin, taking up his practice at Ashburn Hall. Deceased was single, and about 50 years of ago.
