Work at Ellerslie has settled down to steady final preparation for the Sprhm Meeting. Tho weights for six events (V dared yesterday are, on the whole extremely _ fair, but the fields in two of the events in particular are expected to be much reduced on the closing of tlie acceptances on Friday. For the Hobson Handicap the result will take some picking, and there is plenty of room b>r guessing. Patetonga at 9.2 (top weiditK with Fisher next at 8.13, has a fairly'’stiff proposition, but on present inquiries'Patetonga is likely to be made favorite. Good support will bo given to British Arch at 8.1, while Ficher will have some solid backing. _ In the .Shorts Handicap Kitty Bellairs is going to command many atlmirers, if she can lie kept up to present form. She is looking well and her training work has been such as to make many enthusiastic friends. Loyal Arch, Tact, and Tatterley arc nicely placed, but Astor is perhaps a shade heavily loaded at 9 Moss man at 7.12 will draw good support’ There tiro some good problems set before racing men in the weights for the Onehunga Steeplechase and the Firing Handicap. In the former event Tragedy Kinoat 11.3, Tat ere 10.13, Okaihau 1L&, anS Qluopot 10.31 will all carry good support locally, and, I think, somewhere about in the order named. Jack Delaval ought to have a fine sporting chance in the Flyi-m Handicap. At 8.12 he is not overweighted” The top weight, Hopfield 9.13, scents out of it as far as much local support is concerned but Gienroy at 8.8 Tinopai 8.8 and British Arch 6.8 will all have strong sun port.

J. Williamson returned to Auckland yesterday with Okaihau. and ho also brought Troublesome, who won the Adelaide Grand National Steeplechase a few weeks J. Thorpe also arrived with Hopfield. The Westralia yesterday brought Thrace, who was purchased in ‘ Sydney for Mr Ernebt Alison, iatid also the vearlin-'s bouuht by Mr E. W, Alison, jun. °
