WELLESLEY STAKES. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 4. The following horses remain in the Wellesley Stakes, 1916, after the second forfeit: Association, Astrophel, Trentham Rpse, Lovesick, Immortelle, Gamecock, Sisyphus, Full Speed, Elocution, Matilda, Birkenvale, cli c by Eokeby— Happy Valley, Estland, Chimera, Kowesian, Hymestra, Mount Joy, Latasse, Ample. PUNGA CROQUET SLUB. The above club’s green was opened on Saturday by the hon. treasurer (Air J. A. Haslett) in place of the president of the club (Mr J. J. Clark), who was out of town. Mr Haslett, in an approprite speech, referred to work which had been done by the members of the club for the various patriotic funds,- and also to the greenkeeper for the splendid condition of the green, which had never looked so well before. He formally declared the green open for play, and called upon the hon. secretary (Mrs Fairbairn) to play the first ball. Owing to the wet weather play was not indulged in.
