Prirate advice has been received that Lance-corporal Douglas Park, the younger son of Mr J. A. Park', hd been killed in action in France. Lancecorporal Park was educated at the High Street and Boys' High Schools, and after bemg employed 0 for some time by Messrs Park, Reynolds, hut., was engaged in farming in the Kelso district. He left with the mounted section of the _sth Reinforcements/and sei-ved on ballipoli from his arrival there until the evacuation. After returning to Fevpt he was transferred to the Pioneer Corps. Lance-corporal Park was keenly interested in athletics and when in Dunedin was a consistent hockey plaver. Information was received in Tananui yesterday morning that Trooner f J Quin (eldest son of Mr WdUiam* Quin) had bf«ii killed in action in France. Trooper Quin lett wnth the Bth Reinforcements. and had been on the French front for some time. A good horseman, and capable of turning hk hand to anythin s that came in his way, he was just the chss of man to bo selected for special service Ho went to South Africa with one of the later contingents for the Boor War, but , did not get into the actual! fighting. After returning home he acquired "a farm near rapamii, but when the present war broke out ho became anxious to enlist, and finally leased his property, and went into training. Ho ' was a native of Tapamu and the news of his death is much deplored by his many schoolmates and acquaintances In the football field ho was a front-ranker, and identified himsejf with >nh outdoor spoits and pasUmes. Private information has been received that Private Stanley Tancrcd Scaife, third eldest son of Mr W. A. Scaife, Glendhu Station, Wa-naka, has bee.a killed in France._ Private Scaife went away with the Main Body, and was right through the Galiipoli campaign. He was brouiiht up on his father's station, and enlisted from Glendhu. Another brother, Arthur, is at present at the front.

Mr John Henry, Mosgiel, was advised yesterday that his son, Private John Ceriie Hendry, had fallen in battle at -the front. Ho first enlisted with the company that _ weut to Samoa as a private from Wellington, in which town lie was employed by the Education Department. Returning from Samoa, he went away as sergeant with an Otago regiment in the 7th Reinforcements. When he arrived in Egypt he joined a machine-gun corps as a r.nvate. The deceased was in his twentyfourth year. He was educated at i-'ho Mosgiel District High School, where ho gained

a scholarship, and passed the junior Civil Service. Later on he passed the senior Civil Service in Wellington. Second Lieutenant H. Fryer (wounded) went with the Bth Reinforcements. He was lieutenant in the Territorials, but entered camp as a private and won a commission. Lieutenant Fryer was a noted professional runner, winning over all distances at many meetings. He plaved football with the Christchurch Club and cricket with Sydenham Club. He represented Ashburton County against the South Melbourne cricket team with a memorable innings of 81 (not out), and took most of the Victorian- wickets. For five years previous to going to the front Lieutenant Fryer resided in Methven, where- he_ was a highly esteemed member of the New Zealand *Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's staff. Lieutenant' W. M'Cltvrg (wounded) was born in Christchurch and received his education at the High School at Ashburton and the Waitaki Boys' High School. On leaving school he entered the Bank of Australasia at Ashburton, and was removed to the head office in Wellington, where _he enlisted in August, 1-914. ° He left with the advance force for Samoa as Q.M.S. He was appointed financial treasurer for Samoa. On his return he joined the Rifle Brigade sis Q.M.S., and was appointed second lieutenant on leaving for Egypt, and was A.D.C. to General Lraithwaite. He is 22 years of a^e. Bombardier P. Stockcr (killed) "was a son of the Rev. Archdeacon Stockcr. formerly of Invercargill, and now residing in Christchurch. Bombardier Stocker was 27 years of age, and was educated at Invercargill. Before enlisting in the 13th Reinforcements- he was farming near Gisborne in partnership with his brother. Archdeacon Stocker has three other sons at the. war. One has returned with the Willochra, and is to sit for his commission, another is a lieutenant, and the third a private. All four enlisted in the ranks.
