FINDING OP THE COURT. M A STERS CERTIFICATE SUSPENDED SIX MONTES, CHIEF OFFICER’S FOR THREE MONTHS. [Pep. United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 21. The Court of Inquiry held into the wreck of the Tongariro delivered their decision to-day. The Court found that file disaster i*as primarily caused by the dofault of the chief officer (P. J. Ballard) in failing to take precautions for verifying the position of the vessel when off Table Capo.
The Court considered that ' Captain Makepeace was responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel, and that the duty lay upon him to ascertain her position after passing Table Cape, where the course wm set. The default of the ma*tsr sjid the chief officer contributed to the wreck. The master's certificate waa suspended for eix months, the chief officer’* for three months. As the chief officer holds a master’s certificate, he was granted a mate's certificate. The question of the allocation of costs was deferred until later in tho day. .
