The monthly meeting of the Otago Educaiion Board was continued this morning. Mr D. T, Fleming presiding. Accounts amounting to £15,022 0s 7d wore pa-seod for payment.

Griffiths, first, assistant, Lowborn; Catherine Copland, fourth a>ristant, Camara South ; Edith K. Gilbert, junior a-wast-ant. Arthur street; 'Alex. Lake, third assistant, Moray Place.

The followiriL' appointment was made; Daisy V. E. Lambert, sole teacher. Nugget Point, vice D. W. Morgan (resigned).*' _on behalf of Tnieri Mouth residents, Mr Wright explained the difficulties they labored under in obtaining education, for their children. It was suggested, that the teacher should bo taken fiom Kuii Bush (whore there were onlv live pupils) to Taim Mouth, whore arrangements might bo made for the use of the liali during the. day.—lt was decided to obtain full particulars. 'iukaralu Committee wrote again urging tho hoard to do something to improve the infant classroom, accommodation before Hie warm weather ca-rnc. Unless something was done the committee would be, compelled to mvilo the Health Officer up to inspect.—lt was resolved to make renewed application to the department, pointing out again the urgency of the case. Tho quesuon of accommodation at Kia Ora School was discussed in committee, and it was resolved that pupils attending tho school who were not resident in -.he district be notified that attendance would r.ot_ be permitted at Kiri Ora. School. The rival petitions for a school at Marua-koa. or Five Forte, a question which has oxerciced the board for several months, were finally dealt with, it being resolved—“ That the board recommend that the school be erected at the Five Forks site.”

Mr J. A. Robe its on, pupil teacher at Albany Street, intimated that he had been accepted for military service.—Leave of absence was granted on the usual terms. Tho Principal of the Training College recommended that the., college close on December 15. and reopen on February 26, 1917.—Agreed to. The architect reported in re.foreuoo to shifting the gymnasium building from the present -St. Clair School site to the new silo that the cost of shitting 4uid reinstatement- would cost £179. Tie also furnished a report stating that the estimated expenditure to complete the school was £6,060, which would leave. £940 (out of Hie Government giant of £7,000) available for asphalting and I’m; shifting of the gymnasium.

It was clc-culod to erect a teachers’ retiring room at Gaversliam School, and also to adapt a room at Palmerston School to the same purpose and also a head master's office.

The Cmcf Inspector reported tho arrangements made for the shooting competition in connection with the shield presetted by Mr Daniel Clarke for competition among tho boys in Standards IV., V., and VI. of the primary schools. The matches will lx* Mint off’ between November 1 and November 30. eight boys to a team. The essential feature of Air Clarke’s proposal, and the object underlying his gift, is that all boys in these standards should, bo trained in shooting. The winning team hold Hi© shield for a vea.v.

The. annual review of salaries- made, and it was resolved to raise tho salaries of the office- staff 'to tho maximum under the board’s new scheme.
