LIFE INSURANCE AND THE WAR.

i TO THE EDITOR, j Sir, —Your issue of Saturday contained I an allusion .to a patriotic dairy firm up | north who insured for £SOO members of the staff, who had gone to the war, the firm paying the premiums during the currency of the war. Such an action is to bo commended, yet it.is the least'protection any firm can provide for the dependents' of any employee who is "risking his life. No monetary consideration whatever can adequately replace the lost bread-' winner, yet monetary payment is the only means of redress. I hope many other business houses will follow the example of the northern firm, and provide the particularly necessary precaution. I understand war risks "are available at a reasonable - rate with first-class offices. It is a duty wo ow.e, to thoeo who fight for us, that they should be provided with adequate monetary protection by way of insurance, and in order to provide that protection employers should put their hands in their pockets, and policyholders should, do without dividends during the currency of the war I commend the action of the northern firm to Dunedin business houses, especially where no payments at all are being made to employees at the front. Itis the duty of every man to value his life by the only means available, and if ho cannot manage that his firm should do so for him.—l am, etc., ' Crvis. September 4.
