GREEN ISLAND COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Green Island Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. Lindsay), Ors Reeve, Jackson, Geddtes. Crimp, Eden, Miller, Bretnner, and Mitchell. —Correspondence.—
Mr J. Callaghan wrojo asking for lease of the domain ’reserve, Brighton mad, for 10 years, at ah, annual rental of £s.—lt was retolved that the Government be asked to sanction the lease, and in the event of .permission'being given that further action be left in the hands of the Mayor and chairman of the Domain Board.
Mr C. E. Statharh, M.P., wrote explaining lids action with’, reference to the toll-bar legislation when it was before Parliament, and pointed out that there was an overwhelming majority in favor of the abolition of the. toll-bar. __ Tho Territorial Amusement Committee wrote asking for the use of the borough hall in which to hold an entertainment in aid of patriotic purposes on the 22nd inst.—Permission was granted, on condition that the officers accepted responsibility for the good behaviour of the Territorials during the entertainment. —Reports.;— The Finance Committee recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £76 7s lid, and reported receipts for the month, £162 Cs lOd. Analysis of accounts: Water account (credit), £46 16s 8d; cemetery account (credit), £l7 10s 8d; district fund account (debit), £1,483 14s 6d; hank overdraft, after paying accounts, £1,419 7s 2d. The Cemetery and Domain Committees reported that the board can be supplied with trees for planting at domain at a cost of 4s 6d per 100, f.0.r., Tapanui; and recommended that 200 trees be procured—loo pinus pinaster and 100 pinus miuricata.—lt. was decided to erect a notice forbidding the admission of dogs into the cemetery.—The report was adopted.
The Lighting Committee reported that a start had been made with the lighting contract, and that poles had been erected in nine streets.
The Works Committee reported on works carried out during the. month, and recommended- that a surfaceman be sent to cut a ditch through, section into-the water table. Re road leading to stables at th© Green Island Hotel, it was recommended that Mr Kean be informed that the work will bo attended to at an early date. Tho committee also recommended that a rubble drain be put in Shaud street' footpath, opposite Messrs Grant’s and Smellie’s residences.— Adopted. ,
It was resolved that Mr M'Millan be informed that if he did not make apnlication he would be barred from crossing the footpath into his property. A notice of motion given by Cr Geddes, by which it was proposed, to lower the toll-bar and charge tolls as usual as from to-day, was withdrawn, in view of the litigation pending.
