CHRISTCHURCH, September 5. In the Supreme Court to-day Air Justice Denniston sentenced George Healey charged with indecent assault”on a voung girl, to three years’ reformative treatment. NAPIER, September 4. in the Supreme Court to-day the jury alter four hours’ retirement, failed to agree in the case against Sydney Alartcll, formerly manager of the Hawke’s Bay i'ruit, Produce, and Cool Storage Company, who was charged with theft. WELLINGTON, September 5. -the Secondary Schools Assistants’ Association Conference opened to-dav. The president’s address stressed the importanco of a study of English literature. Remits were carried that one language not necessarily Latin, in addition to English, should bo compulsory for the B *L degree, also that geography should receive more attention in secondary ecrools.
