PORT CHALMERS COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting was attended yesterday evening by tho Mayor (Air T. Scollay), Crs Fail, 'ALLa-chlan, Mn-wson, Stevenson, Lightbourno, Williamson, Powell, and Isbistsr. —Correspondence.— From the Dunedin Drainage Board stating that the board agreed to Air Slinger reporting on a comprehensive drainage scheme for Port Chalmers, and that m addition to any fee paid therefor to Mr .Slinger, a further payment be. made to tho board at tho rale of £SOO per annum for hrne taken by him with such scheme.— The board to he thanked for their offer, which tho Council were sorry they were unable to take advantage of at present. —Reports. The Works Committee reported in detail on the. maintenance work done bv tho stall'. Carey Bay sanitation proposal was held over for further consideration.— Adopted. Ihe F;re Brigade Committee recommended that tho captain of the brigade and the Town Clerk bo appointed borough hvo inspectors ; also that (1) the brigade be increased by the addition of live more men, bringing the number up to 20 members, the council to bear cost of equipment ; (2) that 500 ft of new fire- hose and coupling bo supplied; (5l that a fire plug be put in at the recreation ground for practice purposes: (4) that a fireman be directed to attend each picture show in the town, the cost- of same to be borne by tho picture companies.—Report adopted, with the exception of the four final clauses, wnich were hold over lor further consideration.

The Finance Committee reported that for the past fortnight the receipts an.ountcrl to £355 11s 2d, and .accounts for payment to £7l 12s B<l. Adopted. The Reserves Committee reported that the forester for the past fortnight had been grubbing holes and planting forest trees on the reservoir property, and also planting shrubs, etc., on the "Town Belt below the cairn. Poison had been laid for rabbits, and some gorse grubbed cut.— Ad op tod.
