LONDON, September 5. A. German communique states: Tho artillery activity on the Somme is increasing in violence. A strong French attack between Mauropas and Clery collapsed. French attacks on the Thiaumont front also collapsed.
High Commissioner’s Cable.
LONDON, September 4. French official : We attacked positions east of Fleury, and carried many trenches and a powerfully-organised work on part of the ridge from Fleury to Thiaumont, taking 300 prisoners, Including five officers.
