ME SMITH RETURNED. The following is the result of the Pahiatua by-election held yesterday : G. H. Smith (National Government candidate) 1,521 R. B. Ross (GovernmentJ 1,438 G. D. Macfnrlane (Labor) 241 At the General Election in 1914 Mr J. H. Eseott received 2,905 votes and Mr J. D. Matthews 2,223. Mr Ross formerly represented the seat, but was defeated by Mr Eseott, who died last month.
