EDUCATION BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board was continued this mornir.g, Mr D. T. Fleming presiding. Accounts amounting to £12,305 17s 4d were passed.
—Resignations and Appointments.—
The following resignations were accepted :—Fanny Hubbard, sole teacher, Elderslie; Gcorgina M'Kc-nzie, cole teacher, Maerewhenua: David W. Morgan, sole teacher, Nugget Point; Evelyne M. Black, probationer, Ravensbourno The following appointments were made: —Fanny Hubbard, sole teacher, Ngapuna, vice- Win Morrison (promoted); Mary E. Vlietstra (Mrs), sole teacher, Arthurtou. vice K. M. I). FuldsGth (resigned); Florence A. Widdowson second assistant. Hf.mpden, vice Grace M. Maxwell (transferred). —General. In response to the board'e protest against the location of an inspector at Oamaru, the department replied that it must place its officers according to its own views as to the result in efficiency ; that failure to notify the board of recent changes in the pinsonnel of the department's officers in Otago was an oversight, and in future tho board would Ik directly advised of any change in personnel.—Received.
The architect recommended that the roof of Forbury School be painted, and new iron supplied where found necessary.— This was agreed, to. Palmerston Committee's application for the erection of a. room for teachers was referred to the architect.
Caversham Committee applied for the erection of a retiring room for the lady teachers, and for improved drainage of the playground facing College street. —Referred to the architect
The Chairman reported that, as authorised by the board, he had arranged for the removal of the Rnkana School to a site near Mr Cuttance's at a cost of £35. t was decided that the country members of the hoard visit Five Forks and Marnakoa (re eite for school) on September 12. The twn members were also invited.
—After Long Service.— The Chairma.ii moved that—" The board place on record their appreciation of the excellent services rendered to the cause of education ir, Otauo throughout many years by Messrs James Mitchell and William Scott. They brought to the administration of the board's business a wide knowledge of and experience in public, aafi'irs, their enthusiasm and ability earned for thorn the trust and confidence of their colleagues, and in every way thev worthily upheld the best traditions of this board." — This was carried.
