'THE COME-BACK'
It is always interesting to read or watch on the screen the story of a man who, having deteriorated by reason of his environment, fights his way back to a strong-muscled, clear-headed manhood by hard work and will power. Such a story was that of Pennington in ' Pennington's Choice,' a popular MetTO shown some weeks ago; and ' The Come-back' is a similar (though a better, it is said) exemplification of the qualities necessary in the "man who <wins out." This new Metro, which will be screened at the Empire to-morrow, deals with the regeneration of Bert Ridgeway, a rich young society idler, who from difficulties into which lie has been led by a designing women suddenly awakens to a realisation of his weakness, and takes himself off to a lumber camp in the woods. Here he works, and, incidentallv, falls in love with Patta Herberton, the ward of the camp boss. He has a rival to deal with, however, and his first encounter with this camp bully ends in Ridgeway's discomfiture. But .defeat only "increases his determination to make good, and he goes on living the pure, outdoor working life until he is in perfect condition. In the 'inevitable second encounter with the bully the tables are turned. He does better work than this, even, in defeating a conspiracy against her father's property and the girl herself, and altogether Ridgeway "comes back" in the most successful possible manner. Advance reports place the picture in the front rank of Metros, which is in itself sufficient praise. In addition to the big film there will be shown an amusing comedy, ' Cupid's Bath." and an interesting budget of topical pictures.
