[By Leader.] Reports of meetings and parades, items of interest, or questions should be addressed to “Leader," cjo Y.M.C.A., Dunedin, before S.SO on Monday of each weeh. On Friday last the let Eoslyn Troop paraded, under Assistant Scoutmaster Garden, _ at St. John’s Hall, where a successful evening’s work was done. On Saturday the troop spent the afternoon at Roy’s Gully, where cooking formed the chief work. The Moinington troops had a very good muster on Saturday last. The band met earlier, and had a good practice. Leaders continue to work hard with their patrols. Most recruits just recently joined have passed their tenderfoot tests, and the scoutmasters expect to be busy with second class tests shortly. The Lion patrol made a specialty of judging distances, areas, etc., and in all cases were within the error allowed. The trial examination paper on ambulance, set last week, dealt with the naming of arteries. This week’s deals with the slopping of arterial bleeding. The All Saints’ Church Troop paraded on Monday night, when patrols were given inst.uction in, the usual indoor subjects. The troop have offered to provide a programme for the sale of work to be held on the 29th inst., and are at present occupied in practising a scout play called ’ A Night in Camp.’ There was a good parade on Tuesday night of the Y.M.C.A., ambulance and tenderfoot being carried on. A big parade is hoped for next Tuesday night. The Woodhaugh Troop, under A.S.M. Nelson, met on Thursday last week to enable the district commander to make bis first inspection. The D.C. was extremely pleased with the work done, which shows that a thorough grounding is being given. Ail members have passed their tenderfoot tests, and a few are just starting to receive the tests for second class badges, two being passed by the D.C. ia the signalling. Setgeant O Hara has offered his services to this tioop, and been acc..p.,ed. he having brought a transfer from the Balclm ha Troop. The Green Island Troop received a visit from the D.C. on Friday evening, but the turnout was a poor one. However, good work is being done by this trocp, and the musters during the past few months have been very good. At the quarterly conference of the scoutmasters, held on the 7th, a discussion was* opened by Deputy Scoutmaster Rev. C. S Allan on the best means of applying the Scout law to our Scouts. This was spoken to by most of the officers present. Several methods were brought forward, but the one which received most emphasis was that of “personal touch.” The subject chosen for .the next quarter’s conference is ‘UsefulHints and Advice on Camping,’ to which all n.c.o.s above the rank of leader are to be invited. Scoutmaster H. Gore has been appointed district secretary vice C.S.M. Darracott, who proceeds to Trentbam shortly. The Balclutha Troop met as usual in St. Mack’s Hall on Wednesday evening - The following were promoted Leader Watt to sergeant. Corporal Ramage to leader, and Scout Malcolm to corporal. The latter part of the meeting was spent in memorising the war cry.’ At 8 o’clock the Scouts went for a brisk march, after which they were dismissed.
