This was a clear violation ,oi the undertaking. Other cases had occurred where a similar breach of the undertaking was highly probable, but there was not definite proof. A German communique states : ,The English made repeated attacks between Ovillers and Bazentin-le-Pctit, and again obtained a foothold in our first-line trenches at Thiepval and Pozieres, from which they were repulsed yesterday morning The French twice fruitlessly attacked Maurepas and Ham. All the Russian attacks failed.. South of Brody General Von Bothmer repulsed strong attacks on Tboroj and Konichy, west of Monasterzyska., In the Balkans enemy attacks were repulsed south of Lake Doiran.
