MINING.
The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge worked 4ft ahead last week. There was no unfavorable change in the character of the ground, but a considerable quantity of drift from tailings higher up the river passed into the paddock and "thus hampered dredging operations. No. 2 dredge worked the usual cut and found no change in the prospects. The secretary of the Nokomai Hydraulic Sluiciug Company reports that a wash-up was made on Friday at No, 2, the result being 930z. 7d\vt for 12 days' work. A start was made, on Saturday afternoon to strip the top material of the next_ paddock. No. 3 had a. full week's sluicing last week, and very fair progress was made.
