TURKS COUNTER-ATTACK ON BIG SCALE. PETROGRAD-, April 18. Tho brief references of the communiques do not do justice to the recent fighting in the Caucasus. The Turks are making a supreme effort to oppose tho Russian advance. In addition to the determined stand from the Black Sea to Bitlis, they organised an offensive with the object of recapturing Erzerum. The plan was to make a sudden pressure on the Russian right, hoping to causo tho Grand Duke Nicholas to transfer the troops making towards Trebizond, the Turks then meaning to break the centre of our main forces west of Erzerum. For six days there was fighting of the most severe nature. The Russians met all the -assaults until tho Turks fell back, leaving many prisoners.
