SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
Lawrence.—About 20 householders attended tho statutory meeting. Ei'dit candidates were nominated for the* sevt<n vacancies on the committee, all the old members being re-elected—viz., Messrs Smyth, Browne, lulie, Xorric. Brooks, Gray, and 11. Brown. Mr Paul /the eighth candidate) tied with Mr Brown, and the chairman gave his casting vote for the latter. A vote of thanks to the rector and Ins staff for the excellent way in which the school was conducted was "moved by Mr John Edie, and declared carried by acclamation. The rector (Mr Jones) suitably acknowledged the eomplimontarv vote.
_ Maori Hill.—Mr S. X. Brown, «m., presided over last night's meeting and took exception to the new system of nominating committeemen. The following nino candidates, nominated a week ago, were declared the committee for tho ensuine year—viz., Messrs F. 11. Allen. R. Ann if, C. Beeby; 6en., S. X. Brown, sen., P. L.' Clark, F. G. Gumming, J. L. Grimaldi. D. Leslie, P. H. Young. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring committee- and the staff.
