LONDON, April 17. The 'Daily Mail's' New York correspondent says that the settlement of the beef packers' difficulty has been received with, great satisfaction. It is regarded as a proof of British fair play, and has removed tlie resentment at the British blockade. It is safe to say that the danger of strained relations from the British exercise of lier sea. power is over.

LONDON, April 17. A survivor of the 29th Division writes to 'The Times' as follows:
"Tho great landing at Gallipoli seems r.ow entirely claimed for tho Anzacs. One never reads a paper without seeing praise of Anzacs—and quite right; but what of the British, whose casualties were threefold those of tho Anzacs? The landing would have been impossible except for the 2.3 th East Lancashire Division. A naval division service is being held in memory of tho Anzacs; but surely the King desires to honoT tho heroes of Morto Bay and Y Beach."

LONDON, April 17. The 'Daily Chronicle' states that the Cabinet on Friday deferred decision on the question of general compulsion. It consulted Lord Kitchener and General Robertson, Chief of the General Staff, and will reconsider the matter on Monday. It is believed that the needs of the Army for many months will be realised without resort to the compulsion of fit unattested married men. It is a small matter as compared with the urgent need of labor for tho completion of merchant vessels and the accelerating of the buildinc of lighter warships. n Tho 'Daily Chronicle' states that Mr Lloyd Georgo docs not waver in lii s conviction that general compulsion is necessary. A rumor was current on Sunday evening that lie may resign if he disap"proves of the decision of the Cabinet today. In any event, the Cabinet decision may have momentous consequences.
