A DEATH COMPACT

The extraordinary case of an alleged compact between two sisters was disposed of at the Old Bailey, when Mathilde Perois Curtis, aged 35, of Marylebone and Hampshire, accused of killing her sister, was declared insane. Br Forward, of Holloway Prison, said that the woman was undoubtedly insane, with more marked delusions than lie had ever observed in any oilier piisoner. She had attempted to commit suicide in prison. "Witness added that Miss Curtis imagined that she and her sister were suspected of having committed terrible deeds, including the Grayshott murder, and that a Marconi instrument was being used to record their doings. Prisoner also had a delusion that the food of herself and her sister had been poisoned. Altogether, said the doctor, she considered she had committed a moral act in murdering her sister. Mr Justice Low said it seemed obvious that the trial of a woman in such a condition would be not only useless »nd farcical, but cruel. The jury agreed, and the woman was removed from the dock, to be taken to an asylum.
