During the past few weeks we have lost the intense heat that chaiacteriW the early part of the year, and a, smeli of winter m the air has mad© tho atmosphere crisp and bracing. Seasonable rains have freshened up tho lawns and grasses, and there is a splendid autumn, growth in the orchards.

Alexandra is forging ahead. Wo have two_new factories here. One, run by Mr S. T. Spain, and in courso of flotation as a company, is a rabbit-canning factory. It is carried on in what is locally known m " the brewery." This building was erected by Peck and Thevcrs in tho earlv days, and carried on as a brewery for a good period, and afterwards as an aerated water factor,-. Mr- Spain recently purchased it, and commenced rabbit canning and his intention is to add a freezing plant and also a fruit-canning and ing factory. This factory in itself and m the employment it provides for rabbi ters carters, etc., is a big boon to our district' and has the advantage of bein-T a permanency.
