A WALL COLLAPSES

SIX MEN INJURED, ONI T AT ALLY.

By the collapse, of a brick wall which. was recently erected at tho Waingawa Freezing Works (near Masterlon), sixinen were injured yesterday afternoon. A married man named James Wood was ehcekingly mutilated, and died on the wav to the hospital. A single man named Metz sustained severe- injuries to his head and fractured ribs, but he is expected to recover. Four other suffered scalp wounds. It is believed that the wind caused the parapet to collapse, bringing down tho wall.

An inquest was held at the Gore Courthouse on Monday afternoon before Mr IL A. Young (coroner) relative to tho death of Mrs Rose E. Cox, who died suddenlv on Sunday afternoon. Tho evidence of Mr Cox (husband of the deceased's was to tho effect that his v,ife had been in fairlv good health up to a fortnight a so. Ab--i.it the time mentioned his wife fainted and fdl on Uio floor. Dr Rogers was sent for. His wife remained in" bed about a wee!:. On Sunday, about 5.70, she wont to lie down, ,13 lier head felt'sore. Almost immediate!v she called to witness. who thought she had fainted. 'Witness sent his daughter for a. neic-hbov to come inland his son went for I)r Walt, who arrived shortly after and pronounced life to be extinct. Dr Watt's evidence was to tho effect that deceased had been dead about half an hour when he arrived. He had hold a post mortem examination thatday. Tho body was well nourished, and there were no externa! marks. On rcmovine- the skull cap he found a large clot of blood under the membrr.no of the rightside of the brain. Tho clot was ounce in weight. He also found a laceration of tho brain substance in ths temporal lobe of the riirht side. The laceration could be traced" to a rupture j branch of tho middle cerebral ovterv; otherwise the brain was quite healthy." The cause of death was apoplexy, which was- somewhat rare in a person of tho a::o of deceased. The coroner returned the following verdict :—" That dscvisod died at Gore on April 9. 1016, the cant- of death being apoplexy." Tim deceased I?.dv was a daughter of'Mr and Mrs W. Packer, of Ravensbourne.
