NAVAL DISASTER DURING
BLIZZARD

• LONDON, March 51. There was a distressing naval mishap during Tuesday’s blizzard. Though the storm was at its height many naval liberty men took boats anti returned to their ships, and all got aboard safely except tho cutter belonging to the Conquest, which a steam launch was towing. The hawser broke, and it is believed tiro cuttgr capsized. Forty-five men were drowned, whereof 37 were married.

WASHINGTON, March 31. (Received April ], at 1,40 p.m.) Horst Von der Goltz, who was brought from .Britain to give evidence in the American aiiti-noutrsiity prosecutions, confessed that Von Papen was implicated in an attempt to blow’up the Welland Canal in Canada. A regular scheme to .invade Canada had been agreed upon in conjunction witli Von Pa.uen in order to prevent Canada sending - troops to Britain, ihe plana, however, miscarried. Many arrests of pro-Germans in the United States are expected as the. result of Von der Gollz’s revelations.
