CONTRACTOR'* STRAYOF DE\TI[. Mr William Wallace l.anglands, 56 years ol age, tin: contractin' for Xihotapu dam, which is being built for the Auckland City Council, was killed tinder extraordinary circumstances yesterday afternoon. A blasting shot was fired, at a point about 60 wards from Air Langlands's office, and a p'eco of rock was blown through the roof of the building. Mr Langlands. who was inside, was fatally struck on tlio head. .Messrs Charles Bray and Charles Sinn nerd were with hint, and ho was standing between them. Mr Langlands expired almost immediately.

No bones were broken, but Mr Leckie was badly bruised arid scratched about the. face, and ho seemed to bo suffering pain internally.. Ho was reported to be recovering consciousness at 9 p.m.'
Andrew Jack, a waterside worker, fell down a- hatch on the Te Armu on Wednesday. Ho died in the hospital Inst night. He was married, and had two children.— Auckland telegram.
