♦ CITY POLICE COURT. (Before H. Y. Widdowson, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness.—Christian Long was fined 12s or 48 hours. Two first offenders were each fined 10s or 24 hours. Assault.—Hugh Cameron and Arthur Hathaway were charged with assaulting Constable Brockbank while in the execution of his duty. Mr Irwin defended. — The constable said that while on duty in Castle street last night he found a horse straying, and was taking it to a stable, when Hathaway caught hold of the horse and asked him for 6s. Witness told him he was a constable. Hathaway said: " You police are too officious," and then struck witness on the jaw. Witness let go the horse, and arrested Hathaway. They had a rough and tumble, and witness had to handcuff the man. Cameron came on the scene, and Hathaway got away. Cameron struck witness, and he had a rough and tumble with him. He arrested Cameron, and afterwards apprehended Hathaway in his bed. Both men were under the influence of liquor.—-Mr Irwin said that the accused were working men from the country, and got too much drink yesterday. It was a stupid act on their part.—His Worship fined each accused £5 and costs or one month's imprisonment. By-law Cases.—James Jeffrey, charged with riding a bicycle on a iootpath at Woodhaugh, was fined 5s and costs (7s). ——Robert Charlton, for riding a motor cycle at a speed greater than four miles an hour whilst passing a standing tramcar, was fined 5s and costs (15s). William Samuel Davies wa. similarly charged, and ajiso with driving a motor cycle without a certificate of efficiency. He was fined 5s costs (15s) on the first charge, and Is and costs (7s) on the second. Maintenance.—Mary Burrage applied for a maintenance, separation, and guardianship order against her husband, William Burrage. Mr White appeared for the complainant. There was no appearance of the defendant. Tne order was granted as asked for, and the defendant ordered to pay 20s a week maintenance. Railway Cases.—■ William Carter, William Leslie Buddicom, and Harold Armishaw, expressmen, were charged with soliciting hire on the Railway Station. Mr Payne defended. After lengthy evidence, the charges" against Carter and j Buddicom were dismissed, Armishaw was fined 5s and costs (7s).
