If tliey are held to be passenger ships thr officers will be entitled to an increase ii pay. The matter is now being considered and if the negotiations arc unsuccessful, the Merchant Service Guild will probably apply to the Court for ;i ruling. A new Morse light installed for signalling purposes has been provided" at Nobby's (Newcastle). The light, which is of 250 candle power, was first used on February 2, and worked satisfactorily. The Kowhai is expected to leave Westport to-day for Bluff. She leaves Bluff about Wednesday for Dunedin, Oaniaru. Timaru. Napier, and Gisborne. The Muiiakau is expected to leavr Bluff on Monday. Oamaru on Tuesday, and Timaru on Thursday, for Auckland. The Paloona leaves this afternoon f«n Lyttelton. Wellington, and Melbourne. The Kamoiia is due to-morrow from Westport. The Waipori is exported to be clear of lier coals at Port Chalmers to-night. The Waiwera, after loading frozen produce, left Port. Chalmers yesterday afternoon to complete her Homeward loadin:' at the. Bluff. Lyttclton. and Wellington. The Maitai. which has had her fore am! mizzen masts removed for repairs, is at present under overhaul iu dock at Port Chalmers. THE FERRY SERVICE.
